A.T Pierson said in 1898 that “Prayer is both the starting point and goal to every movement in which there are elements of permanent progress. Wherever the church is aroused…..somebody, somewhere has been praying” In 1984 there were fewer than twenty five 24/7 houses of prayer  in the world and it is now estimated that there are in excess of 10,000 around the world. Prayer initiatives are springing up all over the globe at a staggering rate and here at St Andrew’s we are beginning to see a passion for prayer and worship.

We have had some exciting times over the past few years as we have joined in with the national ‘thy Kingdom come ‘ prayer initiatives incorporating worship evenings, prayer walking, prayer tent with zones focusing on various local, national and global topics, morning prayer gatherings, evening prayer meetings and culminating in a beacon event held in Winchester Cathedral.

There are monthly prayer meetings for the work in Guy’s Marsh prison; a small weekly prayer meeting for the people of this church and any upcoming events; Prayer triplets meeting at various intervals; concurrent intercession for every alpha gathering and Easter Experience; an active prayer chain; Burn 24/7 Prayer events from time to time…… and an openness to the Lord for His strategy for prayer here.
We see prayer as vitally important. As Oswald Chambers said ‘Prayer isn’t for the work, prayer is the work’.

Colossians 4:2-6 ‘ Devote yourselves to Prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us too, that God may open a door for the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may declare it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act towards outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.’ It is a high calling….we would love you to join us
